Launching 1st July 2021, you can expect the internet to be collectively biting its fingernails over the next 1-2 weeks, waiting for changes to happen.

It’s that time of year again: Google is rolling out its latest core algorithm update, July 2021. If you’re thinking “but they only just had an update”, updates like this typically happen two-three times a year but this latest update has been broken up into two parts.

Google decided to break this core update into two parts as some aspects were not yet ready for June. The implications of a broad scale Google core update can either be devastating or not affect you at all – think of it like the top 100 songs of all time where new songs are added to the list every year. It’s not that the songs that dropped got worse, it’s either that songs were made or the popularity of older songs were not accurately reflected in the list.

June’s Update

As mentioned, this update follows a June core update that felt relatively slow to roll out compared with previous updates and left a trail of further ambiguity and mystery in its path. This is common as Google keeps a tight lid on its magic formula.

If you have seen your website was affected it could be that you will see a reverse effect with the July 2021 Core Update. The previous December 2020 Core Update was a larger update so it’s possible that the June and July updates will be smaller in size. In any case, it will take weeks to see the full impact of the July updates.

Has Your Ranking Been Hit?

If you see a dramatic drop in your Google search ranking, the first thing to do is remain calm and wait it out. Updates can be slow to roll out and you may quickly see a reverse in a week or so. This was evident in June as some people saw little or no effect. If you are on the losing end of either Google core update, the experts at SEO agency, John Cabot, tell people to avoid acting too quickly in their guide to the update, “a core update is not an attack on your website or your individual actions”. Wait for the update to fully roll out and take it from there. It’s not a good idea to make a lot of big changes all at once.

Updating and improving website content is a long term game, keeping content fresh and relevant is a business’s virtual maintenance and constantly cleaning and maintaining an office space is standard practice. Keeping the same mentality in regards to your online office space ensures success and drives traffic and sales.
