As the world is beginning to open up again after the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses and companies are coming to the decision as to whether or not an office is needed anymore.

We have had 18 months of adjusting to working from home and for many, the adjustment came quite naturally. For others, however, creating the ideal home office can be a challenge. Being able to keep up the same level of productiving at home as we would have been able to in a traditional office environment requires more thinking.

How much space do I need?

There is no right or wrong answer here. It can be as big or as small as you need it to be. For some, you will require an entire room that has space to walk around, views of outside, good proximity to the kitchen… For others, a desk can be set up in a cupboard and called upon when needed. Trial a few set-ups and see what works best for you.

If space is an issue and in order to make it work you need to relocate, you should consider the option of selling your house quickly, which will allow you to start afresh and find a property that better suits your home office needs.

How do I create a healthy home office?

There are a few things to consider when setting up your office and that is whether or not it is going to be healthy for you in the long term. Getting natural light into a room is not only good for your eyesight but also for your mental health. An ergonomically designed office chair rather than a stool will do a great  favour for your back.

Keeping your monitors at eye-level can also help to reduce strain on your neck and shoulder muscles so investigate adjustable monitor stands. Foot rests under a desk will also provide you with more comfort than you would expect.

How much should I spend?

This really depends on the individual as there is no right answer. For some, having a bespoke desk, custom chair and 4-monitor set up along with a separate break-away area and completely revised room decoration is necessary in order to feel that they are not in their home. For others, a laptop on a table is good enough.

As designated working rooms are now a very much in-demand feature for home-buyers, money you put into a home office can quite easily be recouped when it comes time to selling the property. The first step for this is to find out what your current property is valued at and then begin deciding how to progress.

Summing It All Up

Creating your perfect home office has never been more important to you and your career. But thankfully, it has never been so easy to get it right. There is a definite attraction to creating an office workspace that is not only practical, but one you can call your own.
