The average person spends at least 2 hours per day on Instagram consuming content created by others.

For this reason, many influencers and businesses spend lots of their time creating content meant to attract a following and grow their brands as well. You too could grow your business or brand via Instagram easily. All that is required is a solid plan and a well-thought approach. Outlined below are a few tips and ideas from SocialPlus on how to grow your Instagram following organically.

1. Identify Your Target Audience

Defining who your audience or target customer is, is the first step to growing your business online. With people from all walks of life using Instagram, identifying a specific group to target will make promoting your product and growing your following relatively easier. You also want to target people interested in your product and likely to share it with their friends.

2. Post Your Content Consistently

Instagram is always updating its algorithms, a reason you too should do the same with your content.  Make a habit of posting your content regularly and consistently to keep loyal followers glued and attract new ones.  There are also plenty of tools, such as Hootsuite, that can help manage and post your content as desired. You could also spare a few minutes of your time to create and post content for your followers too.

3. Think Different

Avoid generic content but rather publish something unique to you. Give the target audience a reason to follow you and not see you as an option. Be sure to use all the features Instagram offers, ranging from Reels, Highlights, Stories, and Posts. Do your homework and try to stay ahead of the trend.

4. Take Advantage of Hashtags

The hashtag is a feature that enables followers and other users to find you or related content.  You thus should add relevant hashtags to every content you intend to publish online.

5. Engage With Your Audience/Followers

Don’t just publish content for your audiences; engage with them. Ask how their day was, what their favorite posts are, and ask for their suggestions as well. Be sure to respond to comments, and especially questions that an audience may pose. Doing so will help create a lasting relationship with your followers.

6. Engage With Other Users

Social media is a two-way street. You thus should be as active in following, commenting, and liking other people’s posts as you would want them to reciprocate. You can either participate in their discussion or simply share their content as well.

7. Know The Best Times to Post

Do your research on times when your target audiences are more likely to be online. Try posting at different times of the day and see which posts get more exposure, then start narrowing down to the most active times. Evaluate everything from interactions, website clicks, and views when computing this.  Many audiences, for example, are most active early in the morning, during the lunch hour, and shortly after 5 pm.  These times may, however, differ depending on your target consumers.

8. Have A Strategy

Don’t use social media/Instagram blindly – have a strategy to guide you in creating content, when to publish, and how to respond to both negative and positive comments. A solid plan is crucial, especially if you don’t wish to spend money paying influencers.
