Rural communities in Northern England have received a boost, as a local company has announce plans to bring fibre broadband to some of the most remote properties in the region.

The company in question is Alncom, and they have announced plans to connect 25,000 properties in the area with fibre broadband. There is a particular focus on bringing connectivity to remote areas in Northumberland, County Durham and the Scottish Borders.

The MD of the company, Stephen Pinchen discussed their commitment to digital development in these rural areas. He said: “The need for reliable, high-speed broadband has never been more important. It is incredibly satisfying to see our plans coming to fruition and witness the positive impact this has had on our rural communities.”

As part of their commitment to digital inclusivity, Alncom is also bringing free fibre broadband into village halls in the area and offering free training and IT events within those community hubs.

Local residents have shown appreciation for this commitment, with Northumberland local, Tony Dixon, stating: “We’ve suffered from poor, unreliable broadband for years and a number of companies have raised our hopes with false promises of a fibre connection. Alncom has actually done it and the transformation is unbelievable.”

The Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who is MP Secretary of State for International Trade, also mentioned Alncom’s importance to the area.

She said; “Alncom is a very important business in the area, providing job opportunities and improving broadband provision for many residents who may have had to wait a long period of time to be connected. I am so grateful for all the work they are putting into the infrastructure to make the hard to reach areas included.”

The full fibre rollout has already passed over 7,000 premises.
