Montreaux Homes, the home counties division of Montreaux Group, has successfully exchanged contracts for the purchase of the former Ritz Cinema site in Wokingham. The site comes with existing planning consent for a three-story development comprising 22 apartments, undercroft parking, and communal garden space.

Located in a prime residential area at the heart of Wokingham, the site enjoys excellent proximity to the train station, just a 10-minute walk away. The Victorian character of the surrounding houses along Easthampstead Road reflects the significant growth the area experienced during the 19th century.

The site itself holds historical significance as the former Art Deco Ritz Cinema, which opened its doors in 1937 and was renowned as one of the finest cinemas in the UK at the time.

Recognizing the historical value of the site, the developers are committed to working closely with the local authorities to ensure that the new homes contribute to the local architectural style and heritage.

James Rowntree, Managing Director of Montreaux Homes, stated, “Following our success with the Urban Picturehouse site in Sidcup, we understand the importance of developing on the former location of a landmark building. We are eager to apply our expertise to the approved scheme and collaborate with the local authority to deliver a development that the community can take pride in.”

With strong demand for apartments in Wokingham, and considering the site’s proximity to the train station and town centre, Montreaux anticipates that the development will be well-received and offer sustainable, balanced accommodation to cater to various needs. The company is currently reviewing the existing planning design and incorporating feedback from the council and community.

Montreaux Homes specialises in creating landmark developments and tailor-made homes across London, the Southeast, and key cities in the UK. The company acquires land and buildings, often repurposing former brownfield sites in urban areas near public transport hubs, to bring about positive transformations to towns, cities, and communities.

Since its establishment in 2014, Montreaux has rapidly become one of the fastest-growing property and investment companies in the Southeast. The company is committed to constructing homes and places that people desire, focusing on the end user experience and leaving a lasting legacy.

Commenting on the Wokingham site, Richard Rowsell MRICS, Land Director at Montreaux Homes, stated, “This site perfectly aligns with our ethos of ‘Building Back Better,’ and we are excited to introduce high-quality housing, sustainable technology, and biodiverse garden amenities to the local area.”
