Spencer Short is a finance professional working in Alpharetta, Georgia. He grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from Texas A&M’s Mays Business School with a focus on finance.

His current role at Morgan Stanley involves digital strategy and working on tech-related financial solutions. But behind the job title, Spencer is someone who believes in balance—between work, sports, giving back, and staying grounded.

“I’ve always believed that you can be focused and ambitious, but still make time for the things that keep you human,” Spencer says.

Early Life and Education

Spencer’s path started with a solid foundation. He attended St. George Episcopal School in San Antonio, where he played multiple sports and led student groups like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In high school at Clark, he joined the National Honor Society and the Latin Club, while also playing varsity basketball.

“Being part of a team taught me a lot—how to listen, how to lead, and how to keep going when things get tough,” he explains.

He carried those lessons into college, joining the Finance Club and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Texas A&M. His time there helped shape his professional goals. “Texas A&M gave me structure and a network of people who challenged me and supported me,” Spencer says.

Career in Finance and Digital Strategy

Today, Spencer works as a Digital VEA at Morgan Stanley. His role involves blending finance and tech, something he’s passionate about.

“The finance industry isn’t just about money anymore. It’s about understanding how to use data, how to use tools, and how to stay ahead of changes,” he says.

Spencer is especially interested in how digital strategy is reshaping financial services. He believes tools like automation, artificial intelligence, and real-time data analytics will continue to grow in importance. But he also sees the human side of finance as something that can’t be replaced.

“Tech is a great tool. But people still want to talk to someone they trust. The best part of my job is being that person who helps them understand complex things in simple terms,” he says.

Life Outside of Work

Spencer’s life isn’t all spreadsheets and strategy. He’s a big sports fan—especially of the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers, and Guardians. Living in Georgia, he also follows the Atlanta Braves and goes to games whenever he can.

“I’ve followed Cleveland sports since I was a kid. It teaches you patience and hope—two things you also need in life and work,” Spencer says.

He’s also into playing sports himself. Tennis and pickleball are his go-to activities. “I like the mix of competition and fun. It clears my head,” he adds.

One place Spencer finds peace is Port Aransas, Texas. His family has a beach house there, and it’s become a personal retreat. “Being near the ocean helps me reset. It reminds me of how small we really are and how important it is to enjoy simple things,” he says.

Giving Back and Staying Grounded

Spencer makes time to give back. He’s volunteered with organizations like The Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Mobile Loaves & Fishes, and Special Olympics. For him, it’s about remembering what really matters.

“I think it’s easy to get caught up in your own goals. But helping others shifts your focus in a good way,” he says. “It makes you appreciate what you have and reminds you that everyone’s fighting a battle you can’t see.”

Reflections and Looking Ahead

Spencer isn’t trying to be flashy or chase the next big thing. He believes in staying steady, learning over time, and growing through experience.

“If I could give my younger self advice, I’d say this: don’t rush. The right things take time. And it’s okay to not have it all figured out right away,” he says.

As the finance world continues to evolve, Spencer is paying close attention to the changes. But he’s also paying attention to his health, his values, and his community.

“The future of finance is digital, but the future of life is still personal. I want to keep that balance,” he says.

Final Thoughts

Spencer Short’s story is about more than a career in finance. It’s about combining professional success with personal clarity. It’s about being curious, helpful, and grounded in a fast-moving world. Through his work, his hobbies, and his service to others, Spencer is shaping a future that reflects both skill and heart.
