Vision Engineering will designate Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK) as its authorized distributor for its 3D Deep Reality Viewer.
The Deep Reality Viewer (DRV) is now officially distributed in the UK by Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK), the industry-leading manufacturer and distributor of gold-standard diagnostic and surgical devices and instruments for ophthalmologists, optometrists, and orthoptists.
The DRV offers cutting-edge, glasses-free stereoscopic 3D display technology that combines excellent depth perception with excellent natural visualization.
Dean Johnson, HS-UK Managing Director, said, “The DRV is an exciting addition to the HS-UK product portfolio and is a natural expansion of our educational suite of training and simulation products. We are looking forward to bringing this to the UK ophthalmic market and believe it offers fantastic opportunities for both surgical and diagnostic training.”
The DRV was developed by Vision Engineering, a company with more than 60 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of optical and digital instruments for ergonomic microscopy, and is designed and manufactured in the UK. By projecting separate optical channels to the user’s eyes, the DRV’s innovative technology eliminates the need for polarized glasses while simulating natural stereo vision and depth perception.
The DRV can be used to support training in both surgery and diagnostics. It features a comfortable “heads up” design that enables users to perform, demonstrate, and oversee surgical simulations at high 3D magnification. To encourage good posture and lessen back and neck strain, the full HD display image is delivered at an ergonomically optimal angle.
Co-observation for teaching is made possible by the DRV when used with the Haag-Streit BQ 900 slit lamp, either in real-time or recorded for later review. The optical stereo image in the slit lamp and the digital image in the DRV can be viewed simultaneously thanks to a stereo camera positioned between the eyepieces and optics of the slit lamp.
The DRV gives the instructor a seamless, real-time view of the stereo image. Additionally, live stereo video can be streamed from one DRV to another so that multiple users can watch in stereo. One channel can also be streamed to an external mono screen so that audience members can watch.
Stewart Mardell, Vision Engineering Vice President, said, “Vision Engineering is delighted to be working with Haag-Streit UK to bring our DRV glasses-free stereo display to the UK’s ophthalmic sector. The combination of Vision Engineering’s 65 years of ergonomic microscopy and Haag-Streit’s extensive ophthalmic expertise will offer significant benefits to slit lamp teaching and simulated ocular surgery.”
