Visionary individuals are encouraged to submit their applications to the UK Space Agency Accelerator Explore programme.

Embarking on its eagerly awaited second round, the Explore programme by the UK Space Agency Accelerator is now accepting applications as of the 21st of June. This exceptional programme offers unparalleled support to space entrepreneurs and operates through a partnership involving the UK Space Agency, Entrepreneurial Spark, and Exotopic.

During its initial successful round, the Explore programme provided vital assistance to a dynamic cohort of entrepreneurs representing a wide range of businesses, from STEM education and sustainability to data analytics, artificial intelligence, satellite technology, and rocket hardware development. This support propelled their startups to unprecedented levels of achievement. Now, the programme extends an invitation to the next group of ambitious and forward-thinking space entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds to join its mission of driving innovation, fostering economic growth, and promoting sustainable practices in the realm of space.

Ashley Johnson, the founder and CEO of Applied Atomics, a pioneering UK space company dedicated to harnessing sustainable atomic technology, participated in the first Explore cohort in 2023.

Ashley expressed, “The accelerator has provided an extraordinary journey from beginning to end. Our experience throughout not only allowed us to achieve our intended objectives but also brought forth a new realm of exploration and inspiration that propelled our rapid business growth. We had the privilege of collaborating with our designated tech enablers who expertly balanced technical expertise with a keen business perspective throughout the programme.”

The second round of the Explore programme will offer 30 highly coveted fully funded spots for selected participants, making it ideal for those taking their initial steps into the commercial space industry. It is tailored for entrepreneurs who wish to either establish a space-based business drawing upon their existing knowledge or introduce fresh ideas from diverse industries such as aerospace, law, quantum technology, farming, environmental engineering, or healthcare, which hold potential in the realm of space.

Portia Bircher, the Local Growth Manager at the UK Space Agency, remarked, “The space sector presents genuine opportunities, and the UK Space Agency Accelerator provides support for diverse ideas and talents to realise their growth potential.

“The Space Accelerator’s hallmark lies in providing participants with access to experts who aim to stimulate business growth in our cohorts by fostering an entrepreneurial mindset. This is coupled with a focus on commercialisation and supporting truly sustainable businesses, ensuring that the space sector can offer secure long-term employment and drive economic growth across the entire country.

“The Explore programme represents just one facet of the offerings provided by the UK Space Agency Accelerator and is specifically aimed at early-stage innovators. Our collaboration with universities is of great importance, and the Explore Programme offers a pathway for students to enter the sector while facilitating vibrant knowledge exchange for businesses. A key aspect of our approach is fostering a community by bringing together our cohorts, program alumni, and both existing and emerging clusters of space-related activities. This critical mass will also have a positive impact on adjacent sectors of the economy.”

Equipped with an extensive support system designed to accelerate their entrepreneurial journey, participants will benefit from mentorship provided by seasoned industry experts, gain access to an extensive network of partners, and receive tailored resources and training to address their unique challenges. What sets this programme apart is its distinct emphasis on cultivating entrepreneurial mindsets and fostering growth-oriented attitudes, both of which are vital for achieving business success. Furthermore, the Explore programme encompasses personal growth aspects, equipping entrepreneurs with a diverse skill set to become credible and capable business leaders, while empowering participants with unwavering confidence and a steadfast focus on their goals.

Entrepreneurs interested in applying for the Explore programme can submit their applications through the programme’s official website at https://www.ukspaceaccelerator.co.uk/explore. The application process will remain open until the 25th of August, and successful applicants will commence the programme on the 25th of September.
