An in-depth Q&A with Schnellbacher-Sendon Group, a leading New Jersey-based firm specialising in exterior building facade restorations across the New York City Tri-state area

Schnellbacher-Sendon Group, LLC (SSG) is a construction company that has specialised in exterior building facade restoration since 2005. Founded by Eric Schnellbacher and Valeriano Sendon, the New Jersey-based company has built a strong reputation over nearly 20 years. They focus only on facade work, which allows them to deliver expert results on complex buildings.

From the beginning, SSG chose to stay focused. They don’t do general construction. They don’t chase trends. They’ve spent two decades perfecting the art of restoring, repairing, and renovating exteriors. Their projects range from historic landmarks to high-end residential and commercial buildings across the New York City Tri-state area.

Clients trust SSG because the company delivers on its promises. Jobs are completed on time, within budget, and with minimal disruption. Their teams keep a low profile, maintain clean worksites, and always behave professionally. This quiet, consistent approach has led to many repeat clients and long-term partnerships.

What sets SSG apart is not just skill—it’s trust. Working in some of the most valuable and visible neighbourhoods requires more than talent. It takes honesty, transparency, and respect for both the property and the people living or working in it.

In a highly specialised market, SSG has become a quiet leader. Their work speaks for itself, and after nearly two decades, their name carries weight. For those who understand the value of craftsmanship and dependability, Schnellbacher-Sendon Group is the go-to expert in facade restoration.

Restoring the Past, Shaping the Future: A Conversation with Schnellbacher-Sendon Group, LLC

For nearly two decades, Schnellbacher-Sendon Group, LLC (SSG) has stood out in one of construction’s most technical and demanding fields: exterior building facade restoration. Based in New Jersey and operating across the New York City Tri-state area, the firm was founded in 2005 by two professionals who saw an opportunity to specialise, focus, and deliver with quiet consistency. In this conversation, the team at SSG reflects on how their business started, what they’ve learned along the way, and why their low-profile approach has made a big impact.

Q: How did Schnellbacher-Sendon Group get started? What gap did you see in the industry?

SSG: We started in late 2005 with a clear purpose—to specialise in facade restoration and repairs only. At the time, most construction firms were trying to do everything: interiors, exteriors, new builds, remodels. But we saw that exteriors—especially on older, historic, or high-value buildings—require their own expertise. There was a lack of companies that focused solely on that. So we built a company around doing one thing, and doing it very well.

Q: Was it difficult to build trust in such a specific market?

SSG: In the beginning, yes. This line of work is very detail-oriented, and property owners in the Tri-state area are often working with complex structures. We had to prove ourselves on every single job. But once we started to deliver projects on time, within budget, and with minimal disruption, word spread. A lot of our clients today are repeat customers we’ve worked with for years.

Q: Can you describe the type of buildings and clients you work with?

SSG: We work on a wide range—residential co-ops, commercial buildings, and historic properties. What unites our clients is that they value discretion, precision, and long-term performance. These are often buildings in well-known neighbourhoods, where the visual impact matters just as much as the structural integrity. We’ve done limestone repointing on pre-war buildings, repaired ornate cornices on historic brownstones, and reinforced parapets on large commercial rooftops.

Q: You’ve been in business for nearly 20 years. What’s changed in the facade restoration industry over that time?

SSG: One thing that’s changed is regulation. There’s more oversight now, especially in cities like New York where facade inspection programmes are strict. That’s a good thing—it raises standards and keeps the public safe. But it also means that building owners need a contractor who understands compliance, documentation, and how to work closely with engineers and inspectors. That’s where our experience really counts.

Q: What hasn’t changed?

SSG: The importance of trust. Clients still want to know that they can hand us the keys to a multimillion-dollar building and not worry. They want transparency—on scope, timeline, budget. We’ve built our company values around that. We’re not flashy. We maintain clean, quiet sites. We’re honest about what’s possible and what’s not. That’s never gone out of style.

Q: What’s one job that really stands out?

SSG: A few years ago, we restored the exterior of a century-old building that had been patched up multiple times over the decades. Nothing matched. Materials were crumbling. The owner wanted it done properly, finally. We stripped it down, sourced the right stone, and rebuilt the decorative elements by hand. It took months, but when it was done, it looked like it had always been that way. That’s the kind of work we love—where the restoration blends in perfectly and protects the building for another generation.

Q: How do you stay competitive in such a specialised market?

SSG: By staying small, focused, and hands-on. We don’t spread ourselves thin. We don’t chase massive expansion. Our goal is to build relationships, not just revenue. When we take on a project, we’re fully involved—from safety planning to the final punch list. That level of attention makes a difference, especially when working on high-value properties.

Q: Finally, what advice would you give someone entering this field?

SSG: Learn by doing. Restoration isn’t something you master in a classroom. You need to understand materials—how brick, stone, steel, and weather interact over time. You also need patience. This work rewards people who take pride in the details, even if no one else notices them.

Q: What’s next for SSG?

SSG: We’re not looking to change direction. Our focus remains on doing great work, quietly and professionally. As cities age and building standards evolve, we see more need for experienced, specialised firms. We plan to keep doing what we do best—restoring facades, protecting structures, and earning trust.
