During the COVID-19 pandemic, the world saw schools shut their doors and our children switch to eLearning models almost overnight.

This drastic change in the routine of our students and teachers was a difficult hurdle to overcome with learning and implementing new technology, as well as adjusting to new routines.

While it took some time, many institutions across the country have adapted very well to this new way of learning. This led to the possibility of eLearning becoming more prominent in the future. Some schools are now permanently opting for hybrid learning, which includes both in-classroom and remote learning models.

As the popularity and convenience of eLearning grow, you will notice these four distinct trends taking place in the education industry.

Gamification

Teachers have already used games to help their students learn and stay engaged for years in their classrooms. Games like Jeopardy or relay questions have been played in classrooms around the world.

Now, with the advancement of technology, gamification is even easier and more interesting for students. Having students learn new information and practice what they have learned through online games helps them retain it better while actually having fun. Plus, the reward model that comes with gamification encourages students to perform at their best and drives them to work towards goals.

AI Technology

Artificial Intelligence is creeping into our everyday lives. From home automation to business programs and now to the eLearning classrooms for our students, AI is helping us become more productive and efficient.

An AI eLearning platform can help students receive an individualized and personalized learning program that paces them accordingly. Each student learns differently, so the standard teaching model has become essentially ineffective. This is where AI steps in to guide students through their educational journey at the pace they need, meaning moving quickly through some units while spending more time on others based on each student’s needs.

Plus, with AI’s predictive technology, it’s always one step ahead of the student and can plan for what that student will need next.

Learning Management System (LMS)

Teachers and course instructors are extremely thankful for the learning management system (LMS) technology that is making its way to the market. These systems make planning lessons, tracking student progress, interacting with students, and keeping students engaged much easier.

There are many different LMS platforms out there, such as the ones from ej4, to choose from. Teachers and instructors now have the tools they need to successfully teach a classroom in a remote setting and don’t have to worry about being unprepared for it again. The tech does so much of the work for them.

Virtual Reality

At first, virtual reality sounds like it’s meant more for recreational purposes. What if we started seeing this technology used in the classroom?

Imagine your student learning about the sinking of the Titanic while virtually walking through the ship, seeing the decorations, and being immersed in this time period?

This incredible experience will bring your student’s lessons to life, helping them retain information and create new memories to perform better on tests. While we won’t see this type of technology for a few more years, it is something to look forward to.
