According to new research, British entrepreneurs want to own a pub more than any other business, while their American counterparts’ number one business choice is a gas station.
The research was done by BusinessForSale.com and it revealed that owning a pub is still a popular choice within the UK. It showed that over the past year, over 12 percent of all enquiries on the site were made regarding pubs for sale.
This is opposed to the US, where the most popular choice of a gas station, represented nine percent of all enquiries.
Founder and CEO of BusinessForSale, Andrew Markou, discussed this, mentioning that while some things change, others do not.
He said: “We’ve seen so many things change as a result of the pandemic, reflected on BusinessesForSale.com. For instance, camping grounds and e-commerce opportunities have seen a huge spike in interest. But even with these trends, pubs and gas stations still seem to dominate in these two markets”.
The UK section of this site currently has over 500 pubs for sale, with an average price of £515k. The website’s US portal currently lists 370 gas stations for sale, with an average price of $1.9m.
Mr Markou added: “For the past two decades it has always been pubs in the UK and gas stations in the US. Even with the huge impact of the pandemic, this picture remains the same.”
