Western Digital stock prediction: $451.28 bull, $197.92 bear

Western Digital did not fail a good quarter because Tuesday’s close sits a few dollars under the pre-print close. Nasdaq’s historical file puts the official close on Tuesday 3 November 2026 at $347.35, up $8.76, or 2.59 percent, from Monday’s $338.59. On the last 90 daily log-returns and 40 sessions through 31 December 2026, the bull is $451.28, the base is $275.22 and the bear is $197.92.

A beat the stock rejected is the obvious reading. It misses the split in the 10-Q filed on 23 October: cloud exabytes rose more than 20 percent and price per exabyte rose about 25 percent, while consumer exabytes fell about 30 percent. The $354.19 close on 22 October came before a call set for 4:30 p.m. Eastern. The stock then closed at $343.67, rallied to $396.42 on 28 October, and gave the rally back. The base sits under the spot because the mean daily log-return is negative.

Key facts

  • Official close: $347.35 on Tuesday 3 November 2026, up $8.76, or 2.59 percent, from Monday’s $338.59. High $359.98, low $342.32, volume 5,377,736 (Nasdaq historical file, downloaded 4 November 2026).
  • Same file: the 20-day average is $369.50 and the 50-day average is $417.28. The close is 5.99 percent under the first and 16.76 percent under the second.
  • Quarter ended 2 October 2026: revenue $4,381 million, up 55 percent year on year. GAAP diluted EPS $4.63. Non-GAAP diluted EPS $4.64. Non-GAAP gross margin 58.1 percent. Non-GAAP operating margin 49.1 percent (Exhibit 99.1, 22 October 2026).
  • December-quarter guide, non-GAAP: revenue $5.1 billion plus or minus $100 million, gross margin 60 percent to 61 percent, EPS $5.80 plus or minus $0.20, on about 380 million diluted shares (same exhibit).
  • Cloud revenue $3,868 million, 88 percent of the quarter, up 54 percent. Client $320 million, up 119 percent. Consumer $193 million, up 19 percent. Two customers were 14 percent and 13 percent of revenue (Form 10-Q, 23 October 2026).
  • Operating cash flow $1,604 million. Free cash flow on the exhibit bridge $1,377 million. Cash ended at $1,314 million, down $265 million. Repurchases $1.00 billion. Revolving credit outstanding $650 million, maturing January 2027 (exhibit and 10-Q).
  • Dividend $0.175, record date 4 December 2026, payment 17 December 2026, declared 21 October. This path, not a broker target: bull $451.28, base $275.22, bear $197.92, N of 40 through 31 December 2026.

What just happened, and why the obvious reading is wrong

The 8-K, signed by Cynthia Tregillis, executive vice president, chief legal officer and secretary, sets the conference call for 1:30 p.m. Pacific, 4:30 p.m. Eastern, on 22 October. The Nasdaq Thursday close, $354.19, was already printed. A 4:00 p.m. close cannot judge a 4:30 p.m. call.

The exhibit’s own comparisons are a beat: revenue of $4,381 million against $2,818 million a year earlier, and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $4.64 against $1.78. The sequential GAAP comparison is the trap. GAAP diluted EPS was $8.21 in June and $4.63 this quarter, and diluted net income attributable to common shareholders fell from $3,195 million to $1,779 million. GAAP interest and other income in June was $1,684 million, and the bridge removes a $2,050 million gain on the retained interest in Sandisk. A year earlier that gain was $611 million. This quarter the Sandisk line is zero and GAAP interest and other expense is $8 million. Non-GAAP diluted EPS moved the other way, from $3.56 to $4.64. The drive business did not shrink. The mark on a retained flash stake did.

Tuesday’s $347.35 is not that accounting entry. From $343.67 on 23 October the stock reached $396.42 on 28 October, $42.23 above the pre-print close, then gave back $49.07, or 12.38 percent, by Tuesday. The 29 October high was $402.23. Monday’s close was $338.59. A premarket print is not the spot. Before the cash open on 4 November the Nasdaq info endpoint showed a primary last sale of $349.80 at 6:05 a.m. Eastern. The secondary figure on that payload was $347.35.

Who is exposed

Cloud buyers are the book. Cloud revenue was $3,868 million, up from $2,510 million. Ship-to revenue was $2,081 million in the Americas, $1,708 million in Asia and $592 million in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, against $1,100 million, $1,175 million and $543 million. The 10-Q says that mix moved with the larger cloud customers’ deployment plans. It does not name them.

Beginning this quarter the company attributes revenue to the ultimate end customer when a reseller buys on that customer’s behalf, and it revised the prior year to match. The top 10 were 64 percent of net revenue, against 73 percent. Two customers were 14 percent and 13 percent, against four a year earlier. Client and consumer together are 12 percent of revenue, and they did not move like the cloud book.

Seagate is the other scaled hard-drive name on the tape, not one of those unnamed lines. On 6 October this desk recorded Western Digital at $411.04, down 6.93 percent, beside Seagate: Seagate and Western Digital, 6 October. Tuesday’s $347.35 is $63.69 under that close, or 15.49 percent. The only Sandisk dollars in the saved reconciliation are the retained-interest gains, and they are zero this quarter. The separated memory names are on the SanDisk note after Micron’s NAND quarter and on the Micron shortage note. This path does not forecast either of them.

Shareholders of record on 4 December are owed $0.175, about $65.5 million on the 15 October count of 374,323,269 shares. The quarter’s $1.00 billion buyback of 2.0 million shares was $500 a share, 43.95 percent above Tuesday. Remaining authorization is $2.26 billion of a $6.0 billion program with no expiration date.

What the tape and the primary documents show

The close is $54.88 under the prior five-session high of $402.23 and $11.60 above the low of $335.75. Tuesday’s range, $342.32 to $359.98, sits inside those extremes. The 2026 high close is $746.23 on 18 June, and the day high of $799.87 matches the top of the Nasdaq 52-week range, $132.43 to $799.87. Tuesday is 53.45 percent below that June close and still 101.63 percent above the 31 December 2025 close of $172.27.

The last 90 log-returns run from the close on 26 June 2026 through 3 November 2026. Mu is -0.00581949. Sigma, the sample standard deviation, is 0.05212923. The largest absolute return in that window is 30 July, from $462.04 to $533.04, a 15.37 percent move and a log-return of 0.14295. Dropping it would cut sigma from 0.05213 to 0.04994. It was kept. The negative mean is the longer slide from the June high, not that one print.

More than 20 percent more cloud exabytes and about 25 percent higher price are most of the 54 percent cloud increase, not a pure volume surprise. About 15 percent more client exabytes and about 90 percent higher price multiply to a bit more than a doubling, in line with the rise from $146 million to $320 million. Consumer exabytes fell about 30 percent while price rose about 70 percent. Seven tenths times 1.70 is 1.19, which matches the rise from $162 million to $193 million. The 10-Q calls the volume drop general softness after the higher prices.

What Irving Tan and Kris Sennesael said, and what the filing does not

Irving Tan, chief executive of WD, said in Exhibit 99.1: “Fiscal 2027 is off to a strong start, with results exceeding expectations, driven by robust customer demand and disciplined execution.” Later sentences say the company is executing through its technology transitions and extending visibility into future demand, without a year on that visibility and without naming a hyperscaler. The sentences are in the 22 October 8-K.

Kris Sennesael, chief financial officer of WD, said in the same exhibit: “Our first quarter results demonstrate the continued momentum in our business, with robust exabyte growth and improved pricing driving another quarter of strong financial performance.” He then gives the midpoint: revenue of $5.1 billion, non-GAAP gross margin of 60.5 percent, and non-GAAP EPS of $5.80. The table around that sentence is a range, with revenue plus or minus $100 million, gross margin of 60 percent to 61 percent, and EPS plus or minus $0.20. The revenue midpoint is $719 million, or 16.4 percent, above $4,381 million. None of that is a 31 December share price.

The 10-Q does not name the 14 percent customer or the 13 percent customer. It says existing cash and cash from the business should be adequate for debt repayment. It does not say the $650 million revolver, due in January 2027, has been refinanced.

Street estimates are not in the filing. A post from Wall St Engine on 22 October, at x.com/wallstengine/status/2113360378210009177, put revenue of $4.38 billion against an estimate of $4.13 billion, adjusted EPS of $4.64 against $4.07, the December-quarter revenue range of $5.00 billion to $5.20 billion against an estimate of $4.57 billion, adjusted EPS of $5.60 to $6.00 against $4.78, and free cash flow of $1.38 billion against an estimate of $1.54 billion. The actuals match the exhibit. The estimates are that post.

The financing tension inside the horizon

Operating cash flow was $1,604 million and financing used $1,644 million, including $570 million to settle a portion of the convertible notes and $300 million of net revolver borrowings. Cash fell from $1,579 million to $1,314 million. Net capital spending was $227 million, against $73 million a year earlier.

At 3 July, $350 million was outstanding on the revolver maturing in January 2027. During the quarter the company drew an additional $900 million and repaid $600 million, leaving $650 million outstanding and $600 million of capacity. A 1 percent increase in the variable rate would add $7 million of annual interest. January 2027 falls after 31 December, so the maturity is outside N.

The completed buyback was $500 a share. Remaining capacity of $2.26 billion would buy about 6.5 million shares at $347.35, or about 4.5 million at $500, and the filing says repurchases can stop. The $5.80 midpoint times about 380 million shares is about $2.20 billion, against $1,779 million of non-GAAP net income just reported. The exhibit says a full GAAP reconciliation of the guide is not available without unreasonable effort.

Bull, base and bear

The title prices are this distribution, not a street target and not the $5.80 guide. Mu is -0.00581949. Sigma, with the n-1 divisor, is 0.05212923. N is 40, the sessions from 4 November through 31 December 2026, skipping Thanksgiving Thursday 26 November and Christmas Friday 25 December. The early closes on 27 November and 24 December still count. The square root of 40 is 6.32456.

Base equals $347.35 times the exponential of 40 times -0.00581949, which rounds half up to $275.22. Bull equals the spot times the exponential of N times mu plus 1.5 times sigma times the square root of N, which rounds to $451.28. Bear equals the spot times the exponential of N times mu minus 1.0 times sigma times the square root of N, which rounds to $197.92. The bull is above the spot, so the no-drift alternative was not used. The base is under the spot because mu is negative.

Against $347.35, the bull is up $103.93, or 29.92 percent, the base is down $72.13, or 20.77 percent, and the bear is down $149.43, or 43.02 percent. This bull is $4.39 above the $446.89 bull already in an English title, so the year-end pair stands.

Case Price Versus the $347.35 spot What has to be true
Bull $451.28 Up $103.93, or 29.92 percent The 31 December close finishes 1.5 standard deviations above the negative drift. The rally that reached $396.42 on 28 October has to resume and extend past that print.
Base $275.22 Down $72.13, or 20.77 percent The shares compound the average daily log-return for 40 sessions. The negative mean, which includes the slide from the 18 June close of $746.23, simply continues.
Bear $197.92 Down $149.43, or 43.02 percent The same drift, minus one standard deviation. A pause at the 14 percent or the 13 percent customer, or a break of the $335.75 low, can deliver it.

On the 15 October count of 374,323,269 shares, Tuesday’s close is a market value of about $130.0 billion. The bull is about $169 billion on that count. The bear is about $74 billion. This is not financial advice.

What happens next

The first dated event inside the horizon is the dividend. The board declared $0.175 on 21 October, with a record date of 4 December 2026 and a payment date of 17 December 2026. The cheque is small next to the buyback and the revolver draw, and it does not by itself pull the close to $451.28 or to $197.92.

The second link is the guide and the mix that has to produce it. Cloud did both jobs last quarter, more exabytes and a higher price. Client was mostly price. Consumer revenue rose only because a 70 percent price increase outran a 30 percent drop in exabytes, and that book is 5 percent of revenue. If the same price resistance shows up in cloud, where 88 percent of revenue sits, the $5.0 billion to $5.2 billion range is the line that moves. The saved filings do not set the day that range is scored.

The third date is 31 December, the 40th session. The base of $275.22 is the recent average daily log-return compounded, and the drop from $396.42 to $347.35 shows that drift can persist without a new filing. The bull needs the climb from $343.67 to $396.42 to restart and clear $451.28. The bear needs a break of the $335.75 low on the way toward $197.92. The January revolver sits outside the window, and the path does not assume a refinancing.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the 40 sessions through 31 December 2026 put a Western Digital bull and bear, from Tuesday’s official close?

The bull is $451.28 and the bear is $197.92, with a base of $275.22, from the $347.35 Nasdaq close on 3 November 2026. The inputs are the last 90 daily log-returns. Mu is negative, so the base is 20.77 percent under the close. The bull stays above the close because 1.5 standard deviations more than offset that drift. This is the house formula, not a broker target.

Did the stock fall because the fiscal first quarter missed?

No. Revenue was $4,381 million, up 55 percent, and non-GAAP diluted EPS was $4.64, up 161 percent, in Exhibit 99.1 filed on 22 October 2026. The $354.19 close that day came before the 4:30 p.m. Eastern call. The stock then rallied to $396.42 on 28 October and gave it back. Tuesday’s $347.35 is $6.84 under the pre-print close and $49.07 under that 28 October close.

Why is the base case below the close if the quarter was strong?

The base is $275.22, down $72.13, or 20.77 percent. It is the spot times the exponential of 40 times the mean daily log-return, and that mean is negative. A base under the spot is not a claim that the 10-Q was weak. It is the average of the last 90 sessions, which include the drop from the 18 June close of $746.23 to Tuesday. The bull adds 1.5 standard deviations to that same mean. The bear subtracts one.

Who has to keep buying for the guide to matter?

The 10-Q does not name them. Cloud was $3,868 million, 88 percent of revenue. On a method that looks through distributors to the end customer, the top 10 were 64 percent of revenue, down from 73 percent, and two customers were 14 percent and 13 percent. Seagate is a separate hard-drive supplier, not one of those two lines. Client and consumer together were 12 percent of revenue.

What cash leaves the company before year-end?

The board declared $0.175 a share on 21 October, payable on 17 December to holders of record on 4 December. On the 15 October count of 374,323,269 shares, that is about $65.5 million. In the quarter just reported the company spent $1.00 billion to repurchase 2.0 million shares, about $500 a share, and $2.26 billion of authorization remained. The dividend cash is small next to that buyback, and neither item sets the 31 December close.

Is this a Sandisk prediction?

No. Sandisk’s own quarter was not fetched, so no Sandisk revenue or EPS is used. The only Sandisk dollars here are in Western Digital’s reconciliation: a $2,050 million retained-interest gain in the June quarter, $611 million a year earlier, and none this quarter. That is why GAAP diluted EPS fell from $8.21 to $4.63 while non-GAAP EPS rose from $3.56 to $4.64. This path is WDC only.
