Ford is shaking up its most popular vehicle with a comprehensive refresh of the F-150 for 2027, focusing heavily on utility and lifestyle partnerships. According to Greg Christensen, Ford’s general manager of North America Trucks, the updates were driven directly by customer habits, specifically targeting those who balance demanding work weeks with outdoor hobbies like boating and camping. This approach ensures the truck remains a versatile tool for the vast majority of its users, particularly since over three quarters of F-150 owners regularly engage in towing.
The standout technical achievement for the upcoming model is the introduction of BlueCruise with Towing. This system enables drivers to operate hands-free across more than 130,000 miles of compatible highway stretches, even when pulling trailers weighing up to 10,000 pounds. To complement this high tech shift, Ford is refining its power options by making a 3.0 liter EcoBoost V6 engine standard and returning the beloved 5.0 liter V8 to the high end King Ranch and Platinum trims. The company is also aiming for better market reach by offering more accessible versions of its rugged Tremor and Raptor off road variants.
Adding a touch of blue collar prestige to the lineup is the debut of the first ever F-150 Carhartt edition. Available exclusively on 4×4 XLT Crew Cab models, this special package celebrates a partnership between two iconic American brands rooted in hard work. Buyers can expect unique exterior styling paired with an interior featuring Carhartt inspired accents, along with practical additions like branded all weather floor mats and a specialized spray in bedliner.
This latest venture expands upon a broader collaboration between Ford and Carhartt intended to honor what they describe as the essential economy. While a similar themed version has already appeared on some Super Duty models, integrating the aesthetic into the flagship F-150 signals a deeper commitment to serving traditional trade workers. By blending cutting edge automation with heritage branding and diverse powertrain choices, Ford hopes to maintain its dominance in an increasingly competitive pickup market.
