Tim Cook shares emotional farewell on final day as Apple CEO

An era that defined modern technology came to a close today as Tim Cook stepped down from his role as CEO of Apple. In a heartfelt message shared on X, the departing chief expressed deep gratitude toward the global Apple community, noting that while his official title changes tomorrow, his affection for the users and employees will remain permanent. He described the community as a constant source of inspiration and noted that he is looking forward to starting a new chapter in his career.

Cook leaves behind a legacy marked by unprecedented financial growth and hardware innovation. Taking the reins in August 2011 following the departure of Steve Jobs, Cook steered the company into uncharted territory, overseeing its ascent to becoming a trillion dollar entity. Under his watch, Apple expanded its ecosystem with the introduction of AirPods and the Apple Watch, while fundamentally transforming its computing power by transitioning MacBooks and desktops to proprietary Apple Silicon chipsets.

Beyond the balance sheets, Cook navigated the complexities of international diplomacy and high profile political friction. One of the more lighthearted moments of his tenure occurred during a public spat with former President Donald Trump, who famously referred to him as Tim Apple. In a characteristic move of subtle wit, Cook responded by updating his social media handle to include the iconic apple logo symbol.

Starting September 1, Cook will transition into a new role as executive chairman of Apple’s board of directors. The mantle of CEO passes to John Ternus, the current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. Interestingly, at 50 years old, Ternus enters the position at the exact same age Cook was when he first took over fifteen years ago.

The leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment for the tech giant. Ternus is expected to make his debut lead appearance at an upcoming keynote event on September 9. While anticipation is already high for the latest iPhone lineup, industry insiders expect this particular event to mark another historic milestone with the unveiling of Apple’s first ever foldable device.
