For every dollar invested, we bring in more than 8, Hong Kong investment chief says

Hong Kong’s government owned investment vehicle is seeing a massive surge in effectiveness through strategic partnerships with private capital. Speaking at the inaugural Nusa Dua Forum in Bali, Hong Kong Investment Corporation CEO Clara Chan Ka chai revealed that the organization acts as a powerful catalyst for larger investments. She noted that for every single dollar the corporation invests, they manage to attract more than eight dollars from international patient capital sources, including university endowments, pension funds, and other sovereign wealth funds.

This ability to leverage public money into significant private inflows comes amid an impressive run of financial growth for the entity. The HKIC recently announced that it generated approximately 6.46 billion Hong Kong dollars in investment income for 2025, marking a staggering 175 percent increase compared to the previous year. Alongside this jump in revenue, the firm reported a healthy net internal rate of return of 14 percent.

During a panel discussion featuring Blue Pool Capital CEO Oliver Weisberg and moderated by SCMP publisher Tammy Tam, Chan emphasized that these results are not accidental. She credited the success to strong government leadership and what she described as very clear certainty of policy. According to Chan, having consistent political will provides the stability necessary for long term investors to commit their resources confidently.

The discussions took place against a broader backdrop of regional cooperation during the forum organized by the South China Morning Post and Indonesia’s own sovereign wealth fund, Danantara. With around 120 attendees consisting of family office leaders and institutional investors, the event highlighted how official support combined with private expertise can drive high returns while helping cities like Bali evolve into global financial centers.
